Name/TitleAntique Continental Pewter Covered Sugar Bowl, Marked Inside Bowl, c. 1780
About this objectAntique Continental Pewter Covered Sugar Bowl, Marked Inside Bowl, c. 1780 - 1800. This sugar bowl is a beautiful example with a nice lid and shaped body embossed design around the rim. This sugar bowl has a stepped foot and a lid with a nicely shaped finial. The sugar bowl is marked on the inside of the bowl, but all I could read was "OBIT". I believe this covered sugar bowl dates from the last quarter of the 18th Century. An example is similar to this is pictured in "Pewter Of The Western World", by Peter Hornsby, page 178, plate #555. There he identifies the lidded sugar bowl as Austro-Humgarian from the 18th Century. DIMENSIONS: 4 7/8" H. (covered) 3 1/4" H. (top of bowl) x 4 1/4" Dia. at the rim and 3" Dia. at the base. CONDITION: The condition is very good for the age, with some denting and scratching to the surface.
